Holly and Austin went into town to do some shopping and run errands and Tyler and I spent a couple of hours going through camping equipment to make sure we were ready for our trip to Lake Somerville.
Tuesday - At lunch time I went to MCA (school for Holly & boys). They had several drama sketches that were very impressive because the kids actually wrote the scripts; and all three (or four) of the sketches tied together to talk about life with/without Christ. Then they handed out awards. Tyler won the Drama Award (gets it from his mother) and Austin won the leadership award (don't know if I've mentioned, but Austin has been the Student Body president all year!) Austin had youth band practice at 7pm, so I didn't go home until about 9pm.
Wednesday - We had our usual Staff meeting and then ate Chinese for lunch. I worked on Sunday's service a bit among other things. Holly brought the boys up to the church around 5pm and because I didn't have any major responsibilities she and I went to dinner at Chili's. We haven't had much alone time lately, so it was a nice "mini-date." Then I went to the Student Service (called "6th Street") and I stood up in the balcony with Tyler and watched kids "texting" on their phones during the service. I couldn't believe how many of them had their phones out and so I found a laser pointer and started pointing it at them when they would pull their phones out. Most of them would hide it quickly and didn't know where the laser was coming from, but one kid absolutely didn't care and just kept texting away while our youth minister spoke.
Thursday - I worked on a few loose ends at the office in the morning and then MCA had their end of school party (talent show, slideshows) at lunch time . I went back to the office to tie up those loose ends and then headed home to pack up for our camping trip. We finally left for Lake Somerville about 7pm, arrived at 8:30pm.
Friday - We spent the day sailing, swimming, eating and enjoying our friends. Oh yeah...and getting sunburned.
Saturday - We started packing things up shortly after breakfast and left before lunch. Somerville is barely an hour away from home so that was nice to be home quickly. Holly went to stay with her sister because her parents were in Alaska and her grandmother needed some help. The boys and I went up to the church a little later to set our stage back up after a wedding. I'm glad we don't have many weddings because EVERYTHING has to come off of the stage. But the boys are a great help to me and we usually get paid by the wedding party, so the boys like that little extra cash flow!
Sunday - Our services went really well. We started with a Memorial Day video and later had a short emphasis on the Gideons ministry and showed a powerful video testimony of a Muslim man who came to Christ after being given a Gideon Bible in prison. You can see the video here. Oh yeah...Austin played drums for me in our worship services! He was amazing! I'm excited about both of our boys and the musical talent they are showing.
Austin went fishing with a friend's family after church, so Tyler and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie by ourselves. It was entertaining, but a little over the top. Because it was Memorial Day weekend there were no activities at the church, so we got to go home and relax after the movie.
