June 30 - July 6

Monday - I had a lazy morning (day off and the rest of the family was in Burleson) until I got a phone call from a church member. My "favorite" words to hear on a Monday are "I know it's your day off, BUT..." There was a pretty good relational crisis and I told them I'd meet them at my office, but when I got in my car the battery was dead. So I asked them to come out to the house, hoping for a jump in exchange for my counseling services.

Tuesday - The dogs woke me up at 4am barking incessently, so I went outside to see what was going on. They were outside the gate and when I went outside the younger dog came over to me, but our older dog, Stacey wouldn't come even when I called her. She was just looking up at something, so I went over to her and found the object of their interest. They had chased a opossum up a fence post. I got the dogs back inside the yard so they would stop barking. When I went out the next morning the opossum was still there sitting atop the fence post...so I took a picture of him (at the top).

I headed on to Coaches study where we were in a study called Flawed: Imperfect People Chosen by God. We're studying people like Jacob (deceiver), Gideon (insecure, self-doubter), David (pre-meditated sinner), Solomon (unwise lover), Elijah (slow learner) and Jonah (prejudiced prophet). It's been really good!

Later in the morning we had a meeting with a guy from the BGCT church architect dept and talked with him about future building plans. At some point during the day my new laptop came in. I have needed a laptop for working at home or when I'm out of town and our Executive pastor bought me a really nice one. Our church network is set up so that I can access all of my (our) files no matter where I am. It's very handy!

Wednesday - Usual staff meeting in the morning and planning for the Sunday service.

Thursday - Because I was a "bachelor" for the week David & Hope Elms invited me to breakfast at the Diner. I would probably eat there everyday if I could afford it. Not necessarily because the food is outstanding, but just because it's handy and I enjoy the fellowship with people.

Holly and boys returned to the house while I was at the office so I was glad to see them when I got home.

Friday - Holly ran her first ever 5k run (3.1 miles) and so we got up really early and went in to downtown Houston to cheer her on (pictures here)
After a nap I took Austin fishing and then we all headed in to the Tomball Chick-Fil-A to see our friend Gatlin Elms perform a concert and then watched fireworks at dark.

Saturday - We had a pretty relaxing morning, but then I had to go to the church later in the afternoon to set up the stage after a wedding.

Sunday - We had our Patriotic service in the morning, I got a short nap and then it was off to rehearsal in the afternoon.

Austin, Tyler and I left about 6pm to go lead worship at Wilderness Ridge camp. It's a good hour and 45 minutes to the camp, but we got there to lead worship at 8pm. It's kinda weird driving that far to lead 4 songs and then leave, but the camp leaders think it adds something special and we enjoy it. We thought we would drop in at FBC Magnolia Sr. High camp over near Bryan so we headed that way about 8:30 or so. It took longer than I thought it was going to take and we got to Bryan about 9:50. I was pretty tired after a long day and it was probably another 30 min. to the camp from there, so we decided to get something sweet at Dairy Queen and head on home.
